Cherish The Day Is My Ideal Love Story
I owe you guys an apology. My goal was to have this post out as soon the show aired, but I was recovering from a very eventful vacation and needed some time to collect my thoughts after watching. Now that I’ve had a week to process, let’s get into the greatness of Ava’s brilliance……
Anytime that I hear of Ava DuVernay creating new content, I’m on board before I know what the show is about. When I saw the preview for “Cherish The Day,” I fell in love with two characters who I hadn’t been introduced to yet. All I saw was black love on screen and I was sold. If you’re a fan of Ava’s work like I am, then you know she has a way of creating characters and scenarios that you can relate to. You feel an instant connection to the story line and you’re drawn in as if this was your life. This show is no different and Ava has some nerve taking my visions of love and creating a show out of it.
Why do I connect so well with this show? I had to ask myself this question several times as I watched the first two episodes and after much discussion with friends, I was able to figure out why. Gently, the leading lady, is me in real life. She’s a Taurus first off all, a confident, self assured woman who isn’t quick to trust others. She’s approached by Evan, the leading man, in a library, who shows Gently, that he says what he means and means what he says in all the right ways. If you’ve followed my previous articles, then you know my goal is to run into my forever love in the aisle of Target or Homegoods so I was cheering as I watched this scene unfold. Imagine having an instant connection with someone in place that holds great literature.
Despite the connection and spending a wonderful evening together, Gently and Evan hit a huge roadblock in their date which causes Gently to put up a wall and push him away. If you’ve been watching the show, you know that Evan is a man of his word and stand up guy. Every quality that I want in a man and a partner, he has, but to a Taurus woman like Gently, this is too good to be true. It’s in our nature to be defensive and it takes a minute to let down our walls so while I understood her caution, I was so angry at her for pushing him away because men like Evan are rare. Evan pays for Lyft’s, ain’t too many men doing that these days.
I think I feel so connected to this show because I’m in the business of manifesting true love these days. The type of love that’s not perfect, but effortless. Two people who enjoy being around each other and when they’re apart, they can’t stop thinking about each other. When people ask me what I’m looking for when It comes to love, I give a list of different things, but I never feel like they quite understand it. This is show is it. You have Gently who brings the zest and energy that Evan has been missing in his life. Evan provides stability and the safe place that Gently has been needing in hers. It’s the perfect balance for both parties and it can be a beautiful thing if you allow it to grow.
I don’t know if Ava reads all the posts and articles concerning her shows and movies, but just in case she does, I want to sincerely tell her Thank You for creating such a a beautiful love story. Thank you for creating black love that isn’t centered on trauma, but the growth that comes with being in a relationship. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that she comes across this article and it brings a smile to her face.
