It’s time our society recognizes we’re not magical negros but millions of black women who are working in our communities everyday to get shit done
I don’t need some dominant, macho man to come into my life and attempt to tame me. It’s not going to work well for either one of us.
Think about who you are in a crisis situation. Are you a Nakia or an Okoye?
It’s time we rethink how we celebrate holidays, and especially V-Day. Like other American traditions, we need to evaluate who benefits and who is hurt by these cultural traditions and decide for ourselves whether we will be participants in this game.
We cannot allow what happened to Janet to happen to any Black woman ever again. We must be each other’s champions and each other’s first line of defense.
While we celebrate black history month, we must continue shouting from the rooftops and taking up space in places where we aren’t or weren’t historically welcome and elevate the voices, stories, and struggles of all black womyn.
It should be clear now that Black actors and actresses can carry a television program when they are given the opportunity and support.
In 2018, I pray for the voices of Black women to be heard from one corner of this Earth to the other.
