Some Of Ya'll Don't Deserve The Internet
Being able to access the internet should be considered a privilege. Thinking about it, it should be a right granted to a small number of people because a lot of ya’ll don’t deserve it. I’m talking about the people that login every day to their social media apps and proceed to write any and everything that comes to their mind, regardless if it’s right or not. Google literally glares in our faces everyday of the week and in certain instances, will ask if they can assist you with something. Alas, people choose not to utilize this free tool and would rather type out crazy things. I realize that the current political and social climate has given a rise to the amount of content we consume on the internet, but it’s also given platforms to people who sound like crazy street preachers.
One of the worst places that these people dwell is on the book of Faces. That website has become such a breeding ground for conspiracy theories, Russian bots, and friends who have never left their small town. They swear they know everything about the world though. It is exhausting, and if it wasn’t for me trying to stay in contact with family, I would have deleted my account a long time ago. I don’t expect everyone to be subject matter experts in every field, but I would hope that if you weren’t sure about something or didn’t have the facts, that you would take 5 minutes to use a free service aka Google to educate yourself. There’s no shame in it and again, it’s FREE. Instead, people would rather pop open their laptops and let their fingers pop off. . In the words of Ygritte from one of my favorite shows, “YOU KNOW NOTHING.”
I can’t wait for the day that Al Gore gets fed up with us all and decides to shut down the World Wide Web for good. I know he is so ashamed of how people choose to abuse his precious internet system. Thankfully, he’s mentoring a young black woman who seems destined to take his place once he’s moved on. From what I’ve read, she’s amazing and less likely to put up with these current shenanigans.
Again, I don’t expect people to be experts in all areas, but there is nothing worse than seeing people write crazy, non-factual things based on race, religion, and sexuality. You aren’t willing to have an insightful conversation with people of color or the LGBTQ community, but you have no problem spreading false information on the internet. You look crazy, and instead of engaging with these people anymore, I’ve decided just to report you as spam or as a possible Russian bot. Maybe then you will learn that it’s better to log off sometimes and be quiet than letting your fingers fly free. Trust, a lot of us don’t care what you have to say to begin with.
