Black Women Don't Have to Help Kanye West. PERIOD.
Kanye West did something fucked up over the weekend. I don’t know the details nor do I care to know more than the previous statement. I heard it involves a Pro-Trump rant on SNL where he held the cast mates hostage and forced them to listen even after the cameras were turned off him. I’m not surprised. I didn’t believe the “Returning home to Chicago” rebrand tour complete with stops at Harold’s Chicken anyway. There’s no more Pink Polo Kanye and there never will be again. PERIOD. He needs help, as I’m sure we all can agree on; however, in those calls for help, make sure you leave black women out of it.
This is a PSA. It is not a black woman’s job to fix black men. Let me rephrase it so I can make sure that you understand me. It’s is not a black woman’s emotional labor in life to support Black men or save them from their own stupidity. Do we do it? Sure, all the time. But we are by no means under any obligations to do so.
I love Childish Gambino, but that animation from his “Feels Like Summer” video of a crying Kanye West being held by Michelle Obama is actual living bullshit. He has a whole entire wife, so why use Michelle Obama instead of her? The same kind of bitch that you were Bound 2 fall in love with on the back of a motorcycle in front of Looney Tunes inspired green screen is the same bitch that should be holding you up and down. If it ain’t a black woman from the beginning, leave us out of it. Society has created this new twisted definition of “The Clean Up Woman” whenever something is broken, they want to give it to black women to fix. I can always tell when black women has stepped in to save the day in this country because all I’ll see on my timeline is “My God is a woman and she’s black.” But a tweet like this is as far as it goes. The level of support, compassion, comfort, security, etc. that we give is not reciprocated, and herein lies the major problem. If you wanna ride with black women, then you’re gonna ride with us all the time. It’s not just going to be when shit is going wrong. It needs to be at all times. PERIOD.
So save your breath before you waste it. Just like the world is collectively over Kanye West, so are black women. We’re not having strategy meetings to volunteer one woman as tribute to the Yeezy Hunger Games, and let’s get real, any attempt to help this man would be like running a deadly gauntlet. Kanye West has a wife with a huge family and plenty of black ass male friends. One of them can collect his edges while we go along our merry way. Keep our names out of your mouths.
