Issa Rae's Domination of HBO: Two new shows are in the works for the writer/creator
Issa Rae, creator and star of HBO's Insecure, is about to dominate the network making two additional shows for the network.
Deadline reported that HBO has green-lighted two shows from Rae, a drama and comedy. The first is Sweet Life, a drama detailing a Black family living and struggling in Los Angeles during the early 1990s. Rae will serve as an executive producer of the show, and it's being written and executive produced by Angela Flournoy, author of The Turner House and National Book Award finalist. And if that wasn't enough black girl magic, Raamla Mohamed, a producer and writer on ABC's Scandal, is confirmed as the show's co-creator.
Rae will also executive produce Him or Her, with Emmy-winner and former Daily Show writer Travon Free. According to Deadline, the show follows "dating life of a bisexual black man and the distinctly different worlds and relationships he finds himself in."
With Rae at the helm of three series for HBO, we're excited to see the continued diversity of how black and brown people will be shown on screen.
